The Mile Behind My Smile

Writing a book has been a goal of mine ever since the 4th grade when my teacher asked me to read a story I wrote to the class. This small act, my teacher showing support for her quiet student, gave me the confidence to use my voice & share my story.

Many years later came Mile Behind the Smile. I wrote this book at the age of 22, a senior at John Carroll University who wasn't sure what I wanted to do or where I wanted to go in life. The only constant I knew was that I wanted to help those who face the same shadow of self-doubt that I have battled with for years. I wanted to make a difference, even if it were for just one person.

From volunteering at a food & clothing drive for the less-fortunate for 8 summers as a child to participating in an immersion trip to El Salvador & helping lead a spiritual retreat in college, the value of helping others has always been centered in my heart. Through Mile Behind the Smile, I wanted to help the reader with a barrier I often face myself: finding my authentic happiness.

I encourage you to read the stories in my book, but not forget about your own. We all have a story that can changes lives, never forget the strength you have within your pages.
